Welcome to our School

Welcome to High Trees School. We offer a specialised on-site learning environment
for looked after children with Social, Emotional, Mental Health (SEMH) requirements.

Our dedicated team provides tailored education and support to help students reach
their academic potential and develop essential life skills.

Join us on a journey of growth and success

Our provision is for young people in residential care aged from 7-17 who are unable to attend mainstream education.

High Trees School is attached to High Trees and Dream Wood registered homes and can offer education for up to 4 young people.

We believe in giving looked after children the same opportunities for their education
and futures as any other children.

Therapeutic Education

We will help our young people disengaged from education to re-engage, increase
their attendance and develop a love of learning through a nurturing environment, a
bespoke tailored curriculum and access to outdoor learning.

We believe that learning should be fun and immersive and we run projects throughout the year to do with food, drama, expressive arts, fashion, culture, gardening and outdoor activities.

Our focus is to guide our looked after young people with SEMH and trauma to
access ability appropriate education and qualifications and move successfully to their
next place of learning.

We offer a therapeutic approach with teaching staff who are trained as therapeutic practitioners.

Curriculum Offer
Our curriculum will provide our young people a broad and balanced education, ensuring comprehensive coverage, meaningful experiences, and continuous progression.

We support a diverse range of learners, creating opportunities for every young person to grow into independent, confident, and happy individuals, enabling them to reach their full potential and prepare for their future. There is a focus on quality of education and providing education based on ability not just chronological age group due to SEMH needs and gaps in learning.

The curriculum offer is adapted to our young people and we also invite input from the professionals of each young person.
So that we provide our pupils with the best opportunities, we offer a curriculum that draws from the National Curriculum, Functional Skills, Vocational Learning and this means that we can adapt our curriculum to meet the needs of each young person who joins the school.

Pupil Profile

Pupils attending the school will have been placed within High Trees or Dreamwood residential care.

Some will have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Pupils may also come with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

All of our pupils will be finding it difficult to attend mainstream provisions and will benefit from a smaller class size and tailored education.

Gender: Mixed
Age range: 11-17 years
Pupils may be present or be diagnosed with: SEMH, SEN, ACEs, challenging behaviour, low or no attendance in education, gaps in education, with or without EHCP, criminal record, CSE/CCE, low self-esteem, self-harming behaviours.

Girls Rising Programme

Our relationship and parenting awareness programme targeted at year 11 young
ladies within KS4.

This can be adapted to suit our young men as well. The ethos of this programme is to educate pupils about positive and healthy relationships and the realities of parenting, particularly at a young age.

The programme includes topics such as consent, sexual education, health education, pregnancy, childbirth, childcare and budgeting. We also use pregnancy bumps and infant simulators as immersive experiences.

Careers

Guidance is delivered in-house and looks at each pupil’s skills, values, academic
ability and future aspirations to work on career guidance and planning.

Pupils are able to access job profiles on the National Careers Service and establish pathways needed to work in the sectors they are interested in.

College visits and applications are also supported for all post 16 options. For those pupils who are able to, we will also arrange appropriate work experience.

Here’s what our team say about working for us:

“The best thing about working for SV Care Services for me, is how supportive and approachable the management team are, which is something I have never had before.

Also, the set shift pattern supports a real work-life balance.

The most rewarding element of my role is seeing the young people achieve their goals!”

(Senior Residential Support Worker)!
